ETCHED IN FIRE
Book 1 of Rising Flame
In a time of war, a young girl is caught up in a desperate struggle.
On her first trading venture, Maelen Saltbearer expects nothing more than to learn the trade from her parents and experience life in the prosperous city of Kaelennar. But when an esch army invades, she and her family are trapped. Taking refuge with friends, they find themselves in an occupied city full of esch, demons, and evil magic workers, who steal the life of others to fuel their magic. Maelen quickly becomes involved in helping to smuggle children out of the occupied city. Soon she begins to realize she may have more to offer than she ever knew.
But nothing is certain in the midst of war. And death is only too real.

Maelen's story continues in this fantasy adventure
Etched in Fire could have been a typical hero's tale. Instead, the book goes above and beyond by centering on Maelen, a character as strong-willed and heroic as any knight. RECOMMENDED

The US Review of Books
There are few books that not only were hard to put down, but hard to keep turning the page. Etched in Fire will stay with you for a long time after the ending which left me bereft and satisfied.

Celtic Frog Reviews
Fantasy after the fashion of Tanith Lee and Michael Moorcock; Hudson combines a strong yet vulnerable heroine with a complex and perilous plot line to present a harrowing tale of growing up during a fight for freedom.
This fantasy is complete with amazing creatures and races as well as magic and dark powers. It has its share of tyrants and tragedies. Emotional and gripping, it is well written and makes it difficult to put down at the end of the chapter.
