Runedance

Book 2 of The Sagathas Bard

A deadly curse will shape a young king’s future.

The gods have given Traedis Atenel the kingship of Tolin. Already she has stopped the export of assassins and altered her country’s destructive course. Still, not everyone agrees with the changes she has made. Her uncle and brother are leading a rebellion, and they will not hold back simply because Traedis is family. And the curse that binds her pulls tighter with each move she makes.

With a lethal deadline looming over her, Traedis needs to find her uncle before it’s too late. But a new danger has emerged, and now she must learn the secrets of bardic runes before they topple her rule.

Goldsong

Book 1 of The Sagathas Bard

A reluctant king. A legendary harp. A city divided.

Traedis Atenel never expected to find herself a king. When she fled her city and her family, all she wanted was to become a bard and make her own way in the world. Now, touched by strange magic and harrowed by imprisonment, she rules the city she once hated.

Supported by her sister Vandeyr, a former assassin, and with the aid of an enchanted harp, Traedis uncovers long-buried secrets and forges alliances where she least expects them. But elemental spirits, ghosts, and hostile powers stand in her way.  Some of them will help her. Some will oppose her.

Some of them are certain to be from her own family.

A Gift of Flame

Book 2 of Rising Flame

Traumatized by her experiences in a recent war, sixteen-year-old Maelen Saltbearer searches for someone to teach her magic. Due to her single-minded search for revenge, no mage has taken her for a student in the past two years, despite her innate talent. She finds herself on the doorstep of Garmyn, sole mage to the lord of a remote forest hold and town. At first Garmyn is unwilling, but Maelen makes him a proposition; she will become his lover if he will teach her. He agrees to take her as a student.

They soon discover that Maelen’s nascent ability has taken an explosive turn, and that she is experiencing episodes of uncontrollable fire. Worse, Maelen exhibits berserker-like tendencies when confronted with danger. If she cannot bring herself under control, she cannot gain the vengeance and the justice she seeks, nor can she bring the war to an end.

The Herd Lord

Dark times find the esch peoples encroaching on centaur lands. The Herd Lord, Iffrix, sees no choice for the centaurs but to defend themselves and their lands, and issues a call to arms.   Left in charge, his wife Niesha expects nothing more than to keep the country running with the help of her allies.  But when blue wolves attack, she must deal with dangers of her own to protect her people and make sure there is a country for the stallions to return to.

But the larger question remains:  is there a traitor within their ranks?

Beth Hudson’s novella of the ones left behind leaves the reader on the edge of the seat, hoping against hope, but still wondering, for all of that, whether it is possible to save the centaur people.
